Why do I need to get home insurance?

Home insurance protects your belongings in the case of a disaster, such as fire, floods, explosion, theft, or the bursting and overflowing of water pipes and domestic appliances.

What is the difference between fire and home insurance?

Fire insurance covers the structure of the building, which includes core structures such as ceilings, walls and basic floorings provided by the developer. HDB fire insurance is also only available for HDB apartments and not private properties.

In comparison, home insurance covers both the items in your home and the structure of the building. For example, renovations, built-in fixtures, furniture, electrical appliances, and even personal possessions such as clothing, devices, and pets are all included.

Why having fire insurance is not enough?

Fire insurance alone does not provide comprehensive coverage for your home in case of an unfortunate event. It is a wise choice to have both a home insurance plan and a fire insurance plan in place as each of them covers different areas of compensation. For example, a fire broke out in your flat and caused your ceiling, walls, cabinets, furniture, and personal belongings to be damaged. Having a fire insurance will only cover the cost of rebuilding the ceiling and walls but none of your household items and personal belongings will be compensated.

Can I buy UniHome Safe if I am not the homeowner but just a tenant?

Yes. You may purchase our home insurance plan to protect your personal belongings as a tenant. It also protects against any accidental damage to your landlord’s property, for example leaving a stove on and causing a fire in the kitchen. Homeowner and the tenant must purchase separate home insurance plans to protect their respective liabilities and belongings.

If you meet with a situation and require emergency home assistance, we provide reimbursement of up to S$100 for home emergency repair work relating to water, electricity, gas and drainage problems.
